Wifredo Fernández, X's head of global government affairs, told the foreign affairs committee that these suspensions occurred over a 12-month period for violating platform manipulation and spam rules.

Russia allegedly orchestrated most of these spam operations, followed by China and Iran, with Russian accounts attempting to 'stoke division' and influence the 2024 US Presidential Election. Fernández warned that manipulation efforts continue daily, with X suspending 'several hundred million additional accounts' last year from foreign state-backed campaigns.
