White House App Raises Content Curation Concerns

The Trump administration has launched The White House App, claiming to provide Americans "a direct line to the White House." Available on both iOS and Android, the app offers official communications, press releases, and livestreams. Upon closer inspection, the app reveals content that appears carefully curated to favor the administration rather than serve as a neutral information source.

The app's News tab displays about 35 cherry-picked articles favoring the administration, while the Affordability section highlights decreased prices for eggs, milk, and bread but conveniently omits rising gas prices. The Social tab includes a "Text President Trump" button that auto-populates with "Greatest President Ever!" before ultimately prompting users to sign up for marketing blasts.

Most concerning is the app's inclusion of a feature allowing users to submit tips to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. While convenient for accessing administration announcements, the app functions mainly as a portal to external websites. Its future remains uncertain after Trump's presidency, following the pattern of other Trump-branded ventures that failed to endure.
