The UK will legalize plug-in solar panels for household use starting August 27. This change allows consumers to purchase approved plug-in solar kits, including micro-inverters, and connect them directly to a wall socket to potentially reduce energy bills.

The government recently published updated laws, fulfilling a pledge made earlier in the year to implement the legislation before the end of summer. An interim specification for these domestic setups has also been released.

The maximum DC output from the panels will be capped at 2000 W, though actual user output is anticipated to be closer to 960W. Micro-inverters will be limited to outputting no more than 800 volt amps. Companies are expected to bring compatible hardware to market soon.
