Steam Machine Verification Hidden in Steam Deck Menu

Valve has quietly rolled out Steam Machine compatibility verification on Steam store pages, mirroring the Steam Deck's Verified/Playable/Unsupported system. The badges appear in a hidden location — buried inside the Steam Deck compatibility section, accessible by clicking "Learn more" and selecting the Steam Machine tab.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced earned the Verified badge, meaning full controller support, proper controller icons, and strong performance on default graphics settings. Other titles including Devil May Cry 5 and Cuphead also show as Verified. Notably, Valve's own Dota 2 rates only Playable due to occasional mouse/keyboard prompts and on-screen keyboard requirements.

The Steam Machine launched recently at a price point around $1,000, positioning it as a living-room gaming PC. Valve hasn't surfaced these compatibility labels prominently yet, forcing buyers to dig through menus. Engadget published its full review of the hardware this week.

For consumers weighing a four-figure purchase, the verification system offers a practical baseline — but its obscurity undermines the console-like simplicity Valve aims to deliver. Until Valve surfaces these badges directly on store pages, the Steam Machine's "it just works" promise remains partially hidden.
