Valve Adds SteamOS Compatibility Ratings

Valve has released a new UI that displays Steam Machine and SteamOS compatibility ratings, a move that follows the launch of the Steam Machine.

The feature appears only in the SteamOS version of the Steam Deck client or within Big Picture mode, suggesting it IRead n the context of the Steam Machine launch. A hidden fly‑out window under the "SteamOS compatibility" block reveals three tabs: Steam Deck, Steam Machine, and general SteamOS. Each tab lists its own set of requirements.

The Steam Machine tab links to the Steam Machine Verified program, while the SteamOS tab indicates whether a game runs through Proton and whether it needs an internet connection for setup or play. The Proton check will also apply to most modern Linux distributions.

Valve has hinted at adding Frame VR compatibility ratings in the future, with a 2026 headset release. The new ratings give consumers clear guidance on whether titles will work on Linux‑based systems, expanding Valve’s reach into the home‑gaming market.
