Valve has rolled out significant updates to Steam's gifting and wishlist features aimed at simplifying the game purchasing process. Users can now gift games without requiring the recipient to have a Steam account, sending a claim link via email. This new method bypasses the previous necessity of knowing the recipient's Steam ID, though senders and recipients must be in the same country. If a gifted game isn't claimed within 30 days, it's automatically refunded.

For international gifting, users must be friends with the recipient on Steam. Valve now automatically adjusts game costs to the recipient's regional pricing at checkout. These changes are designed to make PC game gifting more accessible to non-gamers.

Additionally, Steam's wishlist feature has been enhanced with the introduction of categories. This allows users to organize their saved games like folders or tags, naming them as they see fit. Games can be added to categories directly from the store page or existing wishlist. Users can filter their wishlist by category and manage sale notifications on a per-category basis. Further tweaks include generating shareable wishlist links, viewing demo availability, and playing game trailers directly from the wishlist.
