Valve adds price history and AI tools to Steam

Valve is rolling out a new pricing overlay for every game on its storefront. Shoppers will see a 30-day price history chart that marks recent discounts, percentage drops from launch, and how the current tag compares to the past month. By embedding this data directly in Steam, the company eliminates the need for external sites like SteamDB.

Alongside the pricing tool, Valve is prototyping an AI assistant dubbed SteamGPT to field refund, payment and technical support tickets. A companion “Frame Estimator” would let users input their hardware specs and receive a performance forecast before buying. Tests show the bot resolves tickets in under a minute. Neither feature has a confirmed launch date, but their mention signals a push to tighten the ecosystem.

By surfacing price trends and AI‑driven assistance, Steam aims to blunt the appeal of rival stores that lure users with exclusive discounts or single‑click support. Gamers can now verify whether a sale is genuine or wait for a deeper cut, while developers gain a clearer view of market dynamics. The upgrade lands this week on the desktop client.
