Spotify Tests AI Slop Shield for Real Artists' Profiles

Spotify is piloting a new feature called Artist Profile Protection designed to stop AI-generated songs from being falsely attributed to real musicians. This follows years of low-quality, mass-produced AI tracks flooding streaming services, causing real problems for artists beyond mere annoyance. The tool allows musicians to review and approve new releases before they become associated with their profiles.

If an artist denies a track, it won't link to their profile, won't count in their stats, and won't appear in user recommendations. This simple mechanism aims to prevent AI slop from creeping in unnoticed, giving artists final say over what gets tied to their name. The beta is currently limited, but the platform deleted 75 million such tracks last year alone.
