Spotify is giving Premium users more control over their listening experience with the new Taste Profile feature. Announced by co-CEO Gustav Söderström at SXSW, this AI-powered tool lets subscribers customize their algorithm's recommendations across music, audiobooks, and podcasts. The feature is currently in beta testing and will roll out to Premium users in New Zealand in the coming weeks.

The Taste Profile includes a listening summary and a "Tell us more" prompt where users can specify what they want to hear more of or eliminate unwanted genres. Spotify says the AI can handle nuanced requests like upbeat music for marathon training or news podcasts for commutes. The company emphasizes that Taste Profile is optional, allowing users to stick with the standard experience if they prefer.

This launch continues Spotify's push into AI-driven personalization, following last month's Prompted Playlist feature. Like Taste Profile, Prompted Playlist began beta testing in New Zealand before expanding to US and Canadian markets. These tools represent Spotify's strategy to give users more granular control over their listening experience while leveraging AI to deliver increasingly tailored recommendations.
