Spotify adds podcasts to Prompted Playlists beta

Spotify is expanding its Prompted Playlists beta to include podcasts for Premium users in the US, Canada, Ireland, the UK, Australia and New Zealand. The feature lets listeners type a natural‑language request—e.g., “Create a podcast playlist about recent entertainment news”—and the AI stitches together a curated list from Spotify’s catalog. It also integrates listening history to fine‑tune results, making the experience feel uniquely personal.

Beta participants can also set how often the playlist refreshes—daily, weekly, or not at all—giving them granular control over new episodes. Spotify says users explore 34 million podcasts each week, so letting the algorithm parse that volume from a single prompt could cut down endless scrolling. The update rolls out starting April 7 for existing testers. Tagging specific hosts or genres sharpens the recommendations.

By merging music‑style prompts with spoken‑word content, Spotify blurs the line between its two biggest discovery engines. Early feedback suggests the tool feels like a personalized DJ for both tracks and talks, reinforcing the service’s push toward AI‑driven curation. For heavy podcast listeners, the beta offers a faster path to relevant shows without manual digging.
