Sennheiser HD 480 Pro brings studio sound to closed‑back headphones

German audio giant Sennheiser has rolled out the HD 480 Pro, a closed‑back headset aimed squarely at professionals who need studio precision and stage durability. Borrowing the open‑back HD 490 Pro’s driver architecture, the new model adds an acoustic seal and a detachable 9‑foot coiled cable. It targets recording, monitoring, mixing and live‑sound work. Its closed back improves isolation, letting users hear mixes without leakage.

Two long‑standing complaints about closed‑back designs—ear fatigue and weak low‑end response—drive the HD 480 Pro’s engineering. Sennheiser calls its Vibration Attenuation System a dampening network that curbs internal resonances, promising cleaner bass without distortion. Cushioned temple pads accommodate glasses wearers, while an even‑pressure headband adapts to varied head shapes for marathon sessions. The detachable cable can be routed to left or right ear for setups.

Retailing at $479, the package includes replaceable recording earpads, the coiled cable and a hard carrying case; an optional travel pouch sells for an extra $15. Its robust build and interchangeable pads suit touring engineers. By delivering professional‑grade isolation and accurate low frequencies in a comfortable, detachable form factor, Sennheiser gives engineers a viable alternative to open‑back monitors when mobility or stage bleed matters.
