Seattle Ultrasonics has unveiled the world's first ultrasonic chef's knife, the C-200, which vibrates its blade 30,000 times per second to enhance cutting performance. Priced at $399, this innovative kitchen tool brings science fiction technology to home cooks, offering unprecedented sharpness through high-frequency vibrations.

Unlike traditional knives, the C-200 features a 1,100mAh battery housed in its handle and a prominent orange button that activates the ultrasonic technology. The knife's design includes some compromises, such as lacking a full tang and weighing 328 grams - significantly heavier than conventional chef's knives. Despite these quirks, the blade is crafted from Japanese AUS-10 steel with a 13-degree edge angle.

The C-200 truly shines when cutting delicate foods like tomatoes, fish, and scallions, where its vibrations reduce bruising and produce cleaner cuts. While the technology shows minimal benefit on soft items like strawberries, it excels at denser ingredients like meat and potatoes. The knife also features IP65 water resistance and supports both USB-C and wireless charging, though the optional magnetic charging tile adds to the overall cost.
