Retroid Pocket 5/Flip 2 Get RAM Boost, Price Hike

Retroid is upgrading its Retroid Pocket 5 and Flip 2 handhelds with an additional 4GB of RAM, bringing the total to 12GB. This spec bump will be applied automatically and at no extra cost to customers with unfulfilled orders of the 8GB RAM models.

However, this upgrade coincides with a price increase. After July 14, both the Pocket 5 and Flip 2 will cost $10 more than their current prices. The Pocket 5 will start at $209, and the Flip 2 at $219.

The move likely reflects broader industry trends, particularly the increased demand and cost of RAM driven by AI development. Retroid, operating at a smaller scale than major manufacturers, may have less leverage to absorb these rising component costs, making the elimination of cheaper tiers a pragmatic business decision.
