Quake, the legendary first-person shooter, is celebrating its 30-year anniversary with the release of a new free expansion, "Dawn of the Machine." This update is available today for Quake owners across multiple platforms, including PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PC via Steam and Game Pass. The expansion features a 19-map campaign, a new soundtrack, and a new Deathmatch map. It was developed by Machine Games, known for their work on the recent Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and the rebooted Wolfenstein series, in collaboration with id Software, the original creators.

"Dawn of the Machine" introduces a time loop mechanic, along with new enemy variants and weapon additions. The anniversary was also marked by a livestreamed panel discussion at Quakecon, featuring key figures from the franchise's history, including id Software co-founder John Romero. This release underscores Quake's enduring legacy as a title that defined FPS gaming and continues to inspire the "boomer shooter" subgenre, demonstrating its ongoing relevance after three decades.
