OpenAI plans to integrate its Sora video generation model directly into ChatGPT, according to *The Information*. The standalone Sora app, launched in September 2025 alongside Sora 2, initially saw strong interest but has since declined as users hit limits on video creation.

Adding Sora to ChatGPT could revitalize the video model and boost ChatGPT's weekly active users from 900 million to over a billion. The standalone app will remain available even after integration, despite falling out of the App Store's top 100 free apps.

This move comes with significant costs—OpenAI charges $0.10 per second for 720p video generation and previously offered 30 free daily generations. The company projects spending over $225 billion on model inference between 2026 and 2030, potentially offset by monetization strategies like Disney character licensing and paid credits.
