The Star Wars film, The Mandalorian and Grogu, will be available to stream on Disney+ starting September 2. This release comes just over three months after its theatrical debut in late May and six weeks after its digital availability.

The movie serves as a sequel to the popular Disney+ series, The Mandalorian, which was instrumental in launching the streaming platform. Both the series and the film center on the bounty hunter known as The Mandalorian and his young ward, a 55-year-old member of Yoda's species who appears as an infant. The film garnered a mixed critical reception, with some reviewers noting its resemblance to a series of stitched-together TV episodes.

Despite a muted critical response, the film is expected to perform well on Disney+, appealing to older children and teens with its straightforward plot and limited dialogue. The Mandalorian's success has previously spawned other TV series within the Star Wars universe, including The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka. The upcoming Disney+ release of The Mandalorian and Grogu could potentially aid in customer retention for the platform, especially with limited major Star Wars and Marvel content announced for the near future, apart from the second season of Ahsoka.
