Disney's Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu continues the popular Disney+ series that revitalized the franchise with a bounty hunter story set in outer space. The film picks up after Season 3, where Din Djarin reclaimed Mandalore and adopted Grogu as his Mandalorian apprentice. The series' unique approach to Star Wars storytelling helped Disney+ attract millions of subscribers.

The title character Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) remains a Mandalorian warrior who keeps his helmet on at all times, following his sect's rules. His companion Grogu, often called "Baby Yoda" by fans, is actually a 50-year-old of the same species as Yoda, possessing strong Force abilities. Their mission has shifted from bounty hunting to serving the New Republic, hunting Imperial remnants.

The plot involves the Mandalorian helping Colonel Ward (Sigourney Weaver) rescue Jabba the Hutt's son Rotta, stemming from Mando's past dealings with the Hutt family. This quest takes place approximately five years after "Return of the Jedi," in a galaxy destabilized by the Empire's fall, where crime lords compete for power in the Outer Rim.
