NVIDIA has released Shield Experience Upgrade 9.2.4 for its Shield TV devices, marking the first major update in nearly a year. The update applies to both the standard Shield and Shield Pro boxes, focusing primarily on security improvements and bug fixes rather than new features.

Security patches have been updated to January 2026, addressing potential vulnerabilities. The update resolves several specific issues including Disney+ playback problems, Xbox remote connection issues after sleep mode, and Bluetooth remote disconnections. NVIDIA also fixed a crash that turned on SHIELD and CEC devices during sleep mode and addressed settings page closures when triggering NVIDIA share.

In a recent interview with ArsTechnica, NVIDIA's senior VP of hardware engineering Andrew Bell confirmed the company has no plans to end Shield support anytime soon, teasing that it had "played with new concepts." Bell suggested a potential Shield refresh could support AV1 and HDR10+ codecs along with the latest Dolby Vision profiles. The existing NVIDIA Shield Android TV Pro remains our top pick for gaming-focused streaming devices, thanks to its 4K streaming capabilities and effective upscaling of lower-resolution content.
