NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 Boosts RTX 50 Frame Rates

NVIDIA has released DLSS 4.5 Multi Frame Generation features for its RTX 50 series graphics cards, promising the "smoothest path-traced gaming yet." The update includes Dynamic Multi Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation 6X technologies designed to boost frame rates for high-refresh displays, potentially enabling 4K 240Hz or 1080p/1440p at 360Hz and beyond. These AI-powered features aim to transform gaming experiences on next-generation monitors.

Dynamic Multi Frame Generation acts like an "automatic transmission" for GPUs, adjusting frame rates dynamically to balance refresh rate, image quality, and responsiveness. The Multi Frame Generation 6X feature generates up to five extra frames for every native frame, boosting 4K performance by 35 percent with minimal impact to responsiveness. Both technologies use AI to create interpolated frames rather than accelerating the native frame rate.

The technology can create artifacts in scenes with fine details like rain and hair. Despite this limitation, DLSS 4.5 Multi Frame Generation is now available for RTX 50 series cards with supported games including 007 First Light, CONTROL Resonant, Directive 8020, and Tides of Annihilation. NVIDIA continues to expand its AI-driven approach to enhancing gaming performance without significantly increasing GPU burden.
