Nintendo's upcoming Virtual Boy accessory for Switch and Switch 2 will support VR gameplay, bringing back four classic titles including Super Mario Odyssey, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. These aren't new VR builds but rather the versions previously released for the Nintendo Labo VR set, making this the only way for Switch 2 owners to experience these games in VR.

This is particularly significant since Labo creations generally don't work with Nintendo's new console. The Switch 2 upgrade for Breath of the Wild still includes the VR mode, ensuring continuity for players. The accessory comes in two versions: a hardware unit priced at $100 and a cardboard version available for just $25, which is actually the preferred method for playing these games in VR.

While the hardware version includes red filters to mimic the original Virtual Boy experience and is better suited for playing actual Virtual Boy games designed for static headsets, the cardboard version offers more freedom of movement. Both versions will launch on February 17, coinciding with the release of retro Virtual Boy games on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. The accessory can be purchased through the My Nintendo Store, offering Switch 2 owners a unique way to revisit classic VR experiences.
