Netflix will stream its first live MMA fight on May 16, featuring retired fighters Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano in a featherweight bout. The event, co-hosted by Jake Paul's Most Valuable Productions, will take place inside a hexagon cage and stream globally. Both fighters have been out of competition for years - Rousey since 2016 and Carano since 2009.

This marks Netflix's expansion into MMA after already streaming boxing matches, live talk shows, golf events, and awards ceremonies. The streaming giant likely chose retired fighters because current MMA stars are locked into contracts with promotional entities. Rousey brings a 12-2 professional record and Olympic judo credentials, while Carano is considered a pioneer who began her career in 2006.

The fight has added intrigue given Carano's controversial exit from *The Mandalorian* after social media posts mocking pandemic measures and making inflammatory comparisons to the Holocaust. She has since sued Disney with Elon Musk's support. While not a championship bout, the event represents Netflix's growing ambitions in live sports programming and could pave the way for future MMA content on the platform.
