Lego Expands Smart Play to Pokémon with 12 Interactive Sets

Lego is launching its first non-Star Wars Smart Play sets with a collection of 12 Pokémon-themed builds arriving this summer. The move marks a significant shift for Lego's interactive brick technology, which previously focused on Star Wars vehicles and characters. These new sets target children rather than adult collectors, similar to Lego's successful Mario range.

The lineup ranges from a $15 Jigglypuff Concert to a $120 Charizard vs. Jolteon Ultimate Battle set featuring an 18cm Charizard figure. Two premium all-in-one sets include Smart Bricks, chargers, and Smart Tags that enable battle sounds, movement reactions, and interactive gameplay. The $70 Training House with Pikachu lets kids nurture and train the iconic electric mouse through various activities.

The remaining 10 sets focus on recognizable Generation 1 Pokémon like Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Eevee. Each costs between $20-$90 and becomes fully interactive when paired with a Smart Brick. However, Lego isn't selling Smart Bricks separately, requiring buyers to purchase at least one set with integrated smart technology to unlock these features.

All 12 sets are available for pre-order now and ship August 1. Lego stores will transform into PokéStops and Gyms between August and September 2026, offering exclusive digital rewards, stickers, and branded apparel. This crossover leverages Pokémon's massive global appeal to introduce smart building to a younger demographic.
