League of Legends WASD Controls Hit Ranked Play in Patch 26.9

Riot Games is finally pushing its alternative movement scheme for *League of Legends* into competitive play. The much-discussed WASD control option, which lets players navigate the map using keyboard inputs instead of the traditional mouse-based point-and-click, arrives during patch 26.9 for ranked matches.

Development on this feature began last August, with Riot prioritizing balance over speed of release. The studio needed assurance that WASD wouldn't offer an unfair advantage over established methods. Current telemetry shows point-and-click still holds a minor win-rate edge, though Riot expects this delta to shrink as players adapt.

Beyond WASD, the update brings other accessibility tweaks, including custom inputs for cursor movement and expanded keybinding flexibility. While the move is aimed at keyboard users, the system will permit WASD input when paired with a joystick, even though official controller support remains off the table.

This integration marks a serious commitment to offering alternative playstyles within a game long defined by its mouse-centric control scheme. How the player base adapts to this fundamental shift will determine the long-term viability of this new input option.
