Zowie Firmware Update Slashes Mouse Click Latency

Zowie has released a firmware update for its DW-series wireless gaming mice that introduces a new performance mode, significantly reducing click latency. By holding the left mouse button while powering on, users can enable this mode, which AimAdept tested on the ZA13-DW model. The reviewer measured click latency as low as 0.468 ms compared to 3.898 ms on previous firmware.

This update comes as Zowie continues to refine its reputation for low-latency gaming peripherals. While the practical impact on in-game performance remains debatable, the improvement ensures Zowie users can eliminate mouse click latency as a potential cause for missed shots. The update follows Logitech's recent release of the G Pro X2 Superstrike, which uses inductive switches claiming to reduce latency by 30 ms compared to traditional mechanical switches.

The firmware update is available for DW-series mice through Zowie's support page. Users can toggle between performance and standard modes depending on their preferences. This development highlights the ongoing competition in the gaming peripheral market, where millisecond improvements can be marketed as competitive advantages, even if their real-world impact is minimal.
