iOS 26 simplifies custom iPhone alarm sounds with new file sharing feature

Apple's upcoming iOS 26 introduces a streamlined way to set custom alarm sounds on iPhone, addressing a long-standing user request. The update adds a Use as Ringtone option directly in the Files share sheet, making it significantly easier to convert any audio file into an alarm tone without third-party workarounds.

For Apple Music subscribers, the process remains straightforward: add a desired song to your library, then select it when setting up or editing an alarm in the Clock app. Users can browse the service's catalog of 100 million songs and assign any track as their wake-up sound, though the challenge lies in choosing something that's neither too pleasant nor too jarring.

Those wanting truly unique alarms can import audio files from various sources including iMessage attachments, emails, or recordings made in Voice Memos. After saving the sound in Files, a long press followed by Share > Use as Ringtone converts it to a ringtone option. Sounds exceeding 30 seconds prompt automatic trimming before use.

This enhancement eliminates the need for complex workarounds previously required for custom alarm tones. The feature reflects Apple's ongoing refinement of core iOS functionality, giving users more personalization options for daily interactions with their devices.
