iOS 27 Separates Alarm Volume from Ringer

For nearly two decades, iPhone alarms have been tied to the ringer volume. This meant silencing your iPhone overnight also silenced your alarms. However, with iOS 27, this is no longer the case. A new "Alarms and Timers" section in Settings features a Match Ringtone Volume toggle. When disabled, a separate slider allows users to set alarm and timer volumes independently from the ringer.

To set a separate alarm volume, users navigate to Settings > Sounds & Haptics. There, they can toggle off "Match Ringtone Volume" under the "Alarms and Timers" section. A new slider will appear, enabling users to adjust the alarm and timer volume to their preference. Alarms with individual volume controls, like those in the Sleep schedule, will retain their specific settings. To revert to the previous behavior, the Match Ringtone Volume toggle can be re-enabled.

Additionally, iOS 27 introduces a second "Match Ringtone Volume" toggle for alerts and system sounds, such as text message notifications and keyboard clicks. Disabling this toggle provides an independent slider for these sounds. This feature allows for a loud ringer without accompanying loud system alerts. iOS 27 is currently in public beta and is expected to be released in September.
