Google is making its Project Genie, powered by the Genie 3 model, available for public use. The AI system allows users to generate and interact with 3D worlds. Initially developed by DeepMind as a tool to train AI agents, the project is now accessible to those outside of Google, opening up new creative possibilities for users to explore.

To access Project Genie, users need a $250-per-month AI Ultra plan and must be 18+ and in the US. The platform offers three modes: world sketching, exploration, and remixing. It uses Google's Nano Banana Pro for initial image generation. Users can customize characters, camera views, and world exploration.

It's important to remember that Genie 3 isn't a traditional game engine. While it simulates physical interactions, it lacks standard game mechanics. Generations are limited to 60 seconds, with a 720p resolution and a 24 frames-per-second presentation. However, for AI Ultra subscribers, this is a chance to experiment.

This move by Google demonstrates its continued investment in generative AI, following similar initiatives from competitors like OpenAI and Meta. It signals a shift toward making advanced AI tools more accessible, potentially democratizing content creation and interactive experiences, although the high cost may limit access.
