Google will keep supporting Chrome OS with updates and security patches until mid-2034, according to a support page for enterprise and education users. This comes as the company transitions to its new Googlebook OS, which runs on an Android-based system. Engadget has asked Google to clarify if the same timeline applies to consumer versions.

For qualifying devices purchased today with a 10-year support lifecycle extending beyond 2034, Google is committed to supporting the transition to Googlebook OS, with many devices offering direct migration paths. The company notes that many of the newest Chromebook devices will be eligible to transition, with more details promised soon.

Google announced Googlebooks around its I/O developer conference earlier this year and opened pre-orders last week. The first Googlebooks arrive on October 4, and we've had a chance to try them out. Enterprise and education device management features roll out in the second half of 2027.
