The Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 presents a modest update over its predecessor, the Galaxy Watch 8. While the design remains largely identical – a "squircle" aesthetic with 40mm and 44mm sizes, and the same Super AMOLED display with up to 3000 nits brightness – internal changes are more significant. Samsung has replaced its in-house Exynos chip with Qualcomm's Snapdragon Wear Elite processor, promising improved performance and AI capabilities.

The new watch runs Wear OS 7 and One UI Watch 9, featuring Google Gemini for voice-based AI queries. Battery capacity sees a slight increase on the 40mm model (390mAh vs. 325mAh) and a minor one on the 44mm (449mAh vs. 435mAh), though real-world usage still suggests daily charging is necessary. Charging speeds are comparable to the Watch 8.

Sensor arrays are identical, offering the same health tracking features. The primary divergence lies in the processor and software. However, the Galaxy Watch 9 comes with a higher starting price: $380 for Bluetooth and $430 for LTE, a $30 increase over the Watch 8. This makes the upgrade decision a tough call, especially as the Watch 8's price has already dropped significantly.
