Fourth RuneScape Game RS4 in Development Using Unreal Engine

Jagex has announced a fourth major installment in the RuneScape world, tentatively named RS4, during Rune Fest. The game is being developed using Unreal Engine and will allow players to ride and fight dragons, as shown in a brief trailer.

RS4 will join existing titles like RuneScape, Old School RuneScape, and RuneScape: Dragonwilds, but Jagex emphasizes it won't replace them. Instead, it's designed to sit alongside as an additional way to experience the world of Gielinor.

Set in the Sixth Age, years after Dragonwilds, players will start in the Ashenfall area. Originally conceived as an expansion called Shadows of Ashenfall, the project evolved into a standalone game due to its closer resemblance to past MMOs.

No release date is set, as Jagex calls it a "hugely ambitious project" still a few years away. A RuneScape animated series is also in early development with Lyrical Animation and YouTuber Moist Cr1TiKaL, with more details expected next year.
