Maverick Games, the independent studio founded by former Forza Horizon 5 creative director Mike Brown, has revealed its debut title: Clutch, a cinematic open-world action driving game with a narrative focus. Brown previously served as creative director at Playground Games on Forza Horizon 5 and as a designer on Forza Horizon 4 before founding Maverick. The studio describes Clutch as a generational leap for the racing genre.

Clutch follows sibling racing prodigies competing in R1K, a century-old proving ground for elite drivers. A parallel underground faction called the Midnight Collective emphasizes style and raw speed over sanctioned competition. The story takes a darker turn when the hero lands in trouble and needs a fixer, exposing the corrupt underbelly of the professional racing circuit. Maverick also promises a deep customization system extending well beyond paint jobs and decals.

Players can build unique vehicles for missions and races, competing for position and rewards across both pro circuit campaigns and underground matches. Maverick will reveal more about the story, world, and cast at Summer Game Fest on June 5. Clutch is targeting a spring 2027 release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
