Epic's Disney Extraction Shooter: November Launch Details

Epic Games is reportedly developing a Disney-themed extraction shooter as part of its $1.5 billion partnership with the entertainment giant, with a November release planned. The game represents one of three Disney projects currently in development and is positioned as Epic's comeback following the company's March layoffs of 1,000 employees due to declining Fortnite engagement.

According to Bloomberg, the shooter will feature Disney characters in an extraction format similar to Arc Raiders, where players fight for resources before escaping through designated points. Internal reviewers have expressed concerns about the game's originality, though it's considered the most promising of Epic's Disney projects. The second title received middling reviews, while resources were pulled from the third after Disney expressed disappointment with Epic's timeline.

It remains unclear whether this extraction shooter will be a standalone game or integrated as a Fortnite mode. This uncertainty comes as Epic recently announced the shutdown of three experimental Fortnite games—Rocket Racing, Ballistic, and Fortnite Festival Battle Stage—as part of its restructuring efforts. The development highlights the challenges Epic faces in delivering on Disney's original vision of a comprehensive entertainment universe announced during their 2024 investment.
