EA is shutting down Battlefield Hardline on consoles, delisting the PS4 and Xbox One versions from digital stores on May 22 and ending online services on June 22. The single-player campaign will remain playable for existing owners, while the PC version stays unaffected and continues to be available on Steam and EA's app.

In its announcement on X, EA didn't specify why it's ending support for the console versions, directing players to a FAQ that lists typical reasons including declining player bases. The Steam version of Battlefield Hardline has seen minimal activity this year, with a peak concurrent player count of just 41. Released in 2015, the game will still be accessible to PC players through digital platforms.

This move reflects a broader industry trend of sunsetting online games with dwindling player populations. EA has discontinued dozens of titles over the years, with a complete list spanning three webpages on their website. The issue has gained increased attention recently due to the Stop Killing Games movement, which advocates for preserving access to digital games even after official support ends.
