EA cuts Battlefield studio staff despite record sales

Electronic Arts has laid off an undisclosed number of employees across its Battlefield studios, including Dice, Criterion, Ripple Effect, and Motive Studios. The cuts came despite Battlefield 6 selling over seven million copies in its first three days and generating more than $1.9 billion in revenue for EA's third quarter.

EA characterized the layoffs as a "realignment" to better focus teams on community priorities. All affected studios will remain operational, though multiple offices will see job reductions. The timing is notable given the franchise's strong financial performance, with EA calling Battlefield 6 the "best-selling shooter title of 2025" in its recent earnings report.

This isn't EA's first round of cuts this year. Full Circle, developer of the skate. reboot, announced layoffs and restructuring in February. The gaming industry at large is experiencing similar pressures, with Ubisoft planning up to 200 job cuts in Paris and Microsoft eliminating thousands of positions across its gaming division in July.
