Homeland Security has reportedly sent hundreds of administrative subpoenas to tech companies including Google, Reddit, Discord, and Meta, demanding identifying information for users who criticized ICE or reported agent locations. These subpoenas, rarely used in the past except for serious crimes, have seen increased frequency, raising privacy concerns.

Google, Meta, and Reddit have complied with some requests, though companies can choose whether to comply and may give users 14 days to fight subpoenas in court. Google claims it reviews government requests to protect user privacy and informs users when accounts are subpoenaed unless legally barred.

In one case, the ACLU filed a motion for users in Montgomery County whose information was subpoenaed after posting ICE activity on Facebook and Instagram. The ACLU argues DHS is using administrative subpoenas to suppress speech. Meta recently blocked links to ICE List, a website listing thousands of agents' names.
