Anthropic has expanded Claude's capabilities with a new feature that lets the chatbot generate charts and diagrams in responses. The update, available to all users regardless of subscription status, allows Claude to create visual aids using HTML code and XML vector graphics when explaining concepts.

Unlike image generation, Anthropic describes this as giving Claude access to its own whiteboard. The feature activates automatically when visuals would help, such as demonstrating how to fold a paper airplane step by step. Users can also request diagrams directly. Anthropic emphasizes this isn't creating raster images but rather structured visual representations.

Currently in beta and unavailable on mobile, the feature arrives shortly after OpenAI enhanced ChatGPT with interactive visual generation for science and math concepts. Anthropic warns users to expect quirks as the beta software rolls out, but the addition represents a significant step in making AI explanations more accessible and intuitive.
