BMW has launched its first fully electric X5, the i X5 60 xDrive, packing a massive 140 kWh battery and 570 horsepower. The electric SUV achieves up to 435 miles of EPA range, placing it among the longest-range vehicles available in North America. This marks BMW's shift toward unified platforms across powertrain options.

The i X5 60 xDrive uses BMW's sixth-generation eDrive technology with 800-volt architecture and 450 kW bi-directional charging capability. Dual motors deliver 325 horsepower up front and 245 horsepower at the rear, propelling the 6,371-pound vehicle from 0 to 62 mph in 4.7 seconds. Adaptive air suspension, active anti-roll bars, and four-wheel steering help manage the substantial weight.

Design updates include distinctive X-shaped headlights and button-operated winglet door handles replacing traditional handles. Inside, a 17.9-inch center touchscreen pairs with an optional 14.6-inch passenger display and vertical-spoke steering wheel. The cabin offers a standard 280-watt 12-speaker system or optional Bowers & Wilkins Dolby Atmos setup with 775 watts.

Pricing starts at $79,800 for the electric version, with the plug-in hybrid X5 50e at $77,500 and gasoline X5 40 at $69,800. All variants share BMW's Neue Klasse platform and styling cues. The electric X5 arrives at dealers by late 2026, giving BMW a competitive luxury EV SUV with exceptional range.

BMW's multi-powertrain approach on a single platform represents a significant shift from previous strategies separating electric and combustion models.
