Apple has petitioned the court to charge up to 15% on purchases made outside its App Store in the U.S., a move that keeps it in the long‑running battle with Epic Games. The company’s proposal, reported by 9to5Mac and Mac Rumors, sets a tiered commission: 15% on apps that still pay Apple the standard 30% cut, 10% on News, Video and Mini‑Apps Partner Program apps and subscription renewals, and 5% on apps in the Small Business Program. Most developers qualify for the Small Business Program and have paid 15% on in‑app sales since 2020.

Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, who oversees the antitrust case, had earlier forced Apple to allow external payment links to avoid the 30% fee, but the company continued collecting 12–27% on those transactions, leading Epic to claim non‑compliance. A recent ruling reversed that order, leaving the court to decide a fair rate. Meanwhile, Google, which opened the Play Store to external billing on June 30 and lowered its commission to 10%, was ordered to simplify the installation of third‑party app stores after Epic’s complaint.
