Apple resurrected its Siri AI at WWDC 2026, unveiling the assistant built on Google's Gemini models. The redesign nests inside Dynamic Island on iPhones, activated by voice, a button press, or a new swipe from the center top. The interface, titled “Search or Ask,” lets users launch apps, draft texts, and pull up notes with a single prompt right now.

Apple also released a standalone app that syncs conversations through iCloud, allowing text, voice, and image queries. The assistant previews an interactive card over Dynamic Island, which expands into a larger window for follow‑up questions. Users can also schedule reminders, set alarms, or trigger smart home scenes directly from the card, making the assistant act as a central control hub across the ecosystem.

Apple’s partnership with Google marks a shift from proprietary models, positioning Siri as a competitive alternative to OpenAI‑based chat services. Developers gain beta access today, with consumer rollout slated for later this year; EU and China releases lag due to regulatory hurdles. The move signals Apple’s intent to regain relevance in the AI assistant market after a two‑year absence today.
