Anthropic has expanded access to its Claude Cowork AI assistant, previously exclusive to high-paying Max subscribers. Now, anyone with a $20 per month Pro subscription can try the feature, which automates simple tasks on a local computer. The company notes that Pro users may hit usage limits faster than Max subscribers, who pay at least $100 monthly.

Claude Cowork, an evolution of Anthropic's Claude Code agent, can create documents, organize folders, and interact with other apps via connectors and the Chrome plugin. This rollout includes user-requested fixes, like renaming sessions and better file previews. The move follows the trend of coding agents gaining traction, applying that expertise to broader computer tasks.

The feature remains limited to macOS and paid users, but its popularity could push Anthropic to expand to other platforms. This broader access tests whether a general-purpose AI assistant can find a sustainable market beyond power users. The industry will watch if this cheaper tier drives adoption or simply cannibalizes higher-tier subscriptions.
