Anthropic's Claude Gets Cowork for Office Tasks

Anthropic unveiled Cowork, a new feature for its Claude AI that extends Claude Code-like automation to everyday office tasks. Available in the macOS Claude desktop app, Cowork lets users point Claude at a folder and issue plain-language commands—like organizing files, generating reports from notes, or processing receipts into expense reports. While technically possible before through Model Context Protocol integrations, Cowork streamlines the process for non-technical users.

The company said existing power users were already repurposing Claude Code for general work, inspiring this broader tool. However, risks remain. Vague instructions could cause unintended actions, including file deletion. Prompt injection attacks also pose a threat.

As such, Cowork is limited to Max subscribers as a research preview with no timeline for wider release. The move signals Anthropic’s push beyond developer-focused tools, following this week’s launch of Claude for Healthcare, its answer to OpenAI’s health assistant for ChatGPT.
