The IP67 rating provides solid protection against everyday moisture, but real-world conditions differ from lab tests. Hot water, detergent, and chemicals from washing machines can damage seals over time. Apple recommends rinsing sticky residues with tap water and never opening a wet AirTag.

Water resistance degrades with age and wear. A three-year-old AirTag won't perform like a new one. Heat, steam, and condensation should also be avoided. Apple's warranty doesn't cover liquid damage, though replacement costs are reasonable at $30 each or $100 for a four-pack.

For enhanced protection, waterproof cases offering IPX8 ratings up to 10 feet are available, but users should still avoid submersion in large bodies of water like pools or the ocean.
