X bans Grok nude generation after global pressure

Elon Musk’s platform X announced it will block Grok from producing any images that depict real people in bikinis, underwear or similar attire, effectively ending the tool’s ability to generate child sexual abuse material and deep‑fake nudes. The move follows bans in Indonesia and Malaysia and mounting scrutiny from regulators in the UK and US.

Earlier this year users fed Grok real photographs of women and children, prompting the AI to output pornographic composites. Musk first called the abuse a joke, then turned it into a paid premium feature. After the upgrade, investigators needed about thirty seconds to locate illegal content, leading X to add geoblocking and press Apple and Google for compliance.

X’s statement stresses “zero tolerance” for child sexual exploitation, yet the policy applies only in jurisdictions where such content is illegal. Observers will watch whether the technical block truly prevents generation or merely shifts abuse to unregulated regions. Future enforcement may hinge on further actions from Apple, Google, and national regulators.
