Apple has officially removed the iTunes Movies and iTunes TV Shows apps from tvOS 26.4, forcing users to purchase content through the Apple TV app instead. This consolidation aligns tvOS with iOS and iPadOS changes made in 2023, streamlining Apple's media storefronts. The move eliminates standalone purchase apps, directing users entirely to the Apple TV app for buying shows and movies while retaining access to previous purchases within it. tvOS 26.4 also introduces audio changes, replacing Dolby Atmos with Spatial Audio in the Apple TV Audio Format setting and adding a Continuous Audio Connection option for HDMI.

The update is available for Apple TV and HomePod users, requiring specific steps to install. This shift signifies Apple's ongoing effort to simplify its ecosystem, potentially hinting at a future renaming of the HomePod OS to 'homeOS'.
