MacBook Neo shows iPhone could replace your Mac someday

The MacBook Neo demonstrates that macOS can run on an iPhone processor, specifically the A18 Pro chip previously used in the iPhone 16. This breakthrough shows Apple has all the hardware elements needed to create a device that transforms from phone to computer when connected to the right peripherals.

Apple has already proven this concept twice: first with the 2020 Apple Silicon Developer Kit running on an A12X processor, and now with the MacBook Neo. The hardware exists - iPhones and iPads can already connect to external monitors, and the processors deliver adequate performance for most users. The main barrier isn't technical capability but Apple's reluctance to merge its operating systems.

While Apple has consistently stated it won't merge macOS and iOS/iPadOS, the MacBook Neo proves this separation is more about software design than hardware limitations. Samsung already offers a similar transformation with DeX on Galaxy devices. The real challenge would be creating a seamless user experience when switching between operating systems, but the technology to make your iPhone your only computer already exists.
