iPhone 18 Won't Get Mac-Style MagSafe Charging Despite TikTok Rumors

A viral TikTok video claiming the 2026 iPhone 18 will ditch USB-C for a MacBook-style MagSafe connector is completely false, according to AppleInsider. The rumor suggests Apple will replace the current iPhone MagSafe with a tiny magnetic plug similar to what powers MacBooks at up to 140 watts.

This misinformation follows a familiar pattern where social media fabrications gain millions of views before reaching mainstream media. While the iPhone 18 will certainly include MagSafe charging, it will use the existing wireless induction system with magnetic alignment rather than a direct-connect magnetic cable. The current iPhone MagSafe maxes out at 25 watts and uses circular pucks, not the magnetic breakaway cables found on MacBooks.

The real issue is that iPhone MagSafe doesn't solve the cable-snag problem that made MacBook MagSafe valuable. Users still risk flinging their phones across rooms when cables catch on furniture or pets. EU regulations requiring USB-C ports on all phones sold in member states effectively prevent Apple from removing the port entirely, making a true MacBook-style MagSafe replacement impossible for the foreseeable future.
