Apple finally brought MagSafe to every iPhone model with the iPhone 17e release, eliminating the last gap in its magnetic accessory ecosystem. The $599 iPhone 16e replacement doubles storage while adding the magnetic charging and attachment system that first debuted on the iPhone 12 in 2020.

Samsung's mobile division executive Won-Joon Choi explained the company's reluctance stems from practicality concerns. Since roughly 80-90 percent of users already employ cases, Samsung prioritizes battery capacity and thin profiles over integrated magnets. This approach leaves accessory compatibility to case manufacturers, creating inconsistent user experiences.

MagSafe enables precise wireless charging alignment and supports wallets, stands, and battery packs without additional accessories. While Samsung continues researching integration options, Apple demonstrated feasibility even in the ultra-thin iPhone Air. The magnetic standard provides tangible benefits for daily use, making Samsung's absence increasingly noticeable in premium smartphone comparisons.
