iOS 26.3 Beta Hints at RCS Encryption

Code discovered in the iOS 26.3 developer beta suggests Apple is finally implementing end-to-end encryption for RCS messages. French developer Tiino-X83 spotted a new "SupportsE2EE" key within carrier bundles for networks in France. This addition would allow carriers to enable or disable the security feature for their users.

This move fulfills a commitment Apple and the GSMA made in March 2025. The two parties agreed to support native encryption as part of the RCS Universal Profile 3.0 standard. This is a major departure from Google's previous implementation, which relied on a separate app layer.

By building encryption into the standard itself, Apple ensures true interoperability between iMessage and Android devices. While the code confirms the feature is in development, its inclusion in a carrier bundle does not guarantee a release with the upcoming iOS 26.3 update. Apple may still be testing the functionality.

However, the long-standing rivalry over green and blue bubbles could be nearing its end, with private cross-platform messaging finally becoming a reality.
