iOS 26 tricks to tame iPhone notification overload

AppleInsider reports that iPhone users are drowning in alerts, with a 2024 study showing the average person receives 146 notifications each day. Generation Z sees even more, about 181 daily, roughly one every eight minutes. The constant buzz disrupts focus, prompting many to seek built‑in iOS 26 tools to regain control over their screens.

iOS 26 introduces Scheduled Summary, which bundles alerts into timed digests rather than interrupting you every few minutes. To enable it, open Settings → Notifications, toggle Scheduled Summary on, choose a schedule and pick the apps to include. This groups less‑urgent messages, letting users address them in batches at convenient moments.

For noisy apps, users can disable notifications entirely by selecting the app in Settings → Notifications and toggling off Allow Notifications. AppleInsider also notes that government alerts can be trimmed in Settings → Government Alerts, though Public Safety and Emergency alerts should stay active. Leveraging these iOS 26 controls cuts down distraction and restores a more manageable notification flow.

By customizing summaries and silencing nonessential apps, users report noticeable improvement in focus and battery life, as fewer background processes fire for each alert. The changes reflect Apple’s broader push to give users granular control over their digital environment, a response to growing concerns about notification fatigue across the mobile industry.
