Apple lets users permanently delete their Apple Account (formerly Apple ID) through the company's Data and Privacy website. The process isn't instant - Apple takes up to seven days to verify and process the deletion request. During this window, users can still contact Apple Support to cancel the request using their access code.

Once deleted, the account becomes permanently unusable. Users lose access to the App Store, iTunes, Apple Pay, iMessage, and any purchased or downloaded content. Photos, videos, and documents stored in iCloud get wiped from Apple's servers. Subscriptions auto-cancel at the end of their billing cycles, and AppleCare support cases get closed. Apple explicitly warns it cannot restore any data after deletion.

Before deleting, Apple recommends backing up iCloud data, downloading DRM-free purchases, reviewing subscriptions, and signing out of devices. Users who want a less drastic option can temporarily deactivate their account instead - this suspends access while preserving all data for potential reactivation later. Both processes follow similar steps through Apple's Data and Privacy portal.
